Soul Search Sunday: Applying Yourself

Remember that thing you've been wanting to do for a long time now? The new year is way too far away to keep putting it off. Your goals can not get accomplished if you are sitting around waiting on them to get done on their own. Death to wishful thinking. You must apply yourself and get things done, starting yesterday. Telling yourself I'll start next week is wasting time. Lying to yourself definitely won't get it done. So if you say you'll start something, follow through. Start tomorrow or better yet, start today. Like right now. Start back painting, writing, or working out, or whatever it is you've been putting off. The sooner you get to doing those things that make you happy, the sooner you can be that Brown Queen you would be proud to be. Realize it's a journey. You won't be made new overnight but at least you'll be making progress.

Service Saturday: Donate Blood And Save 3 Lives

Did you know one pint of blood can save up to 3 lives? There are people out there in our communities who need your donation to survive and you have the power to help them by simply donating blood. I've donated blood once before and although the needle scared me a bit, knowing that I helped save a life gave me enough courage to go through with it. So I encourage you to visit your local blood bank. If you're 17 or older they will test you before donating to make sure you're healthy enough to donate and you're well on your way to saving a life or 3. When I asked my mom, a phlebotomist, "Why should someone give blood?" She responded, "There's no better reason than to save someone's life."

Relations Wednesday: Dysfunctional Co-workers

Is drama at the workplace becoming a real pain? Or worse, is it causing you not to do your job to the best of your ability? Getting involved in that old water-cooler drama is for the birds and you should definitely stay clear. Most jobs seem to breed jealousy, gossip, and hidden romances. My advice would be to know every one is not your friend so don't spill out your guts at work unless you have some collateral. Just kidding! Just watch your back.  As for that guy who's watching your back, keep your distance and be careful. No other topic seems to exist in others' minds when your love-life is in a world wind. Never let drama at work affect your livelihood.

Tresses Tuesday: Express yourself

Brown Queens, we can express ourselves in many different ways. Although being different can be intimidating sometimes. Who cares! Being you is what makes you beautiful. Whether it's your style or your hairstyle, use your creativity to express yourself. You define who you are. If you're going to label me, be sure to check the box that says "Me and proud of it." I'm not as daring when it comes to my own hairstyles. I can say I'm getting better everyday at expressing myself with my hair. I'm enjoying the transformation. I think we should all consider ourselves valuable masterpieces and express ourselves accordingly. You are the canvas. Create. These Brown Queens below (including some friends of mine) are masters at creating looks that express them and define gorge. Work!

MUSIC MONDAY: My favorite slept on albums! Wake Up!

Have a favorite album from back in the day or current album that you feel like EVERYBODY slept on except you?? I sure do. I would always pick up albums my parents had laying around or hear them in the car. These cd's slowly but surely became some of my favorites. Because they were my parent's albums, none of my friends had them or got to hear them and I thought they were the best albums ever.(At the time) I remember five in particular. I'm sure there are more and I may add them as I remember them. As of now here are my five favorite slept on albums that I highly recommend you hear and add to your collection! You sleeping on these? Wake up!! Leave a comment below and tell us what your favorite slept on albums are!

*The BQC playlist includes Soulstar by Musiq Soulchild, Easier Said Than Done by Angie Stone, Floetic by Floetry, and Shorty by Donell Jones*
