SERVICE SATURDAY: SERVICE SATURDAY ON THE BQC

Now that we've voted, we can now go back to our regular scheduled SERVICE SATURDAY. Just in case you forgot what SERVICE SATURDAY is all about, here's a reminder. I want to preserve Saturdays for highlighting community service organizations or individuals who often or even occasionally commit time to service. You know by now that a big part of this blog is about the journey to being better Brown Queens. I feel like a big part of that journey would be being involved in our communities and doing our part to make it better. I do ask that you join this journey by going out in your local community and helping where ever possible. It's so important that we recognize the positive things going on that Brown Queens and Kings have a hand in. If you know any organizations that should get a shout out on The BQC, please feel free to comment or tell me how you help your community. Also if you know of any community projects in the Memphis area that I could get involved with, let me know! Comment, comment, comment!!

TRESSES TUESDAY: Black Hair Rocks

    Anybody that knows me and has heard me speak about the BQC knows that something about Black Girls Rock is sure to follow. No one thing or person has influenced The BQC more than Black Girls Rock. I am motivated by Beverly Bond's vision and hopeful that my vision reaches any where close to the stature of  BGR and impacts as many women. Now for what you came here for... the HAIRRR! Black girls are versatile. It's in their talk, walk, the way they dress, and definitely in their hair. The 2012 BGR spotlighted many great talented and respectable women We also got to see the many styles of the Brown QUEENS that rock. Check out these Brown Queens' hair that rocks too below.

MUSIC MONDAY: New Boys From The Block

    Meek Mill, A$AP Rocky, and Kendrick Lamar are three new rap artists that are killing the rap game right now. They found success with their mixtapes and now all three seem to be blowing up at the same time. Now they have big deals with even bigger features. They bring a different energy being from the North/East-coast. They are three artists that are sure to make it into somebody's top 5. I felt a little convicted about putting these rappers on The BQC playlist as I always do with any woman-degrading music. However, I found the cleanest versions possible. I hope you can enjoy it. They're not and neither are we. It's a journey.  Happy MUSIC MONDAY, Queens :)
